Meet Judy Bebelaar

Quiet pools

I had the pleasure of meeting the California poet, Judy Bebelaar. She stopped in New York to visit her daughter Kristin, on her way to a writers' conference in Lake Como in Italy. On the occasion of our meeting, Kristin, a family lawyer, presented her mother with a necklace we made her. Tears and laughs and hugs followed. Judy gave me a copy of her recent book of poems. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this beautiful moment.

Ojai
If there weren't all these freeways
I would love you
like the Indians in Ojai
bending trees over creeks
so people forever would know
the fish lie thick
in quiet pools.
